Shark Tank India: IIT students build laptop worth 15k, features so ‘sharks’ attracted, 75 lakh

New Delhi. In an episode of the business reality show Shark Tank India Season 2, all the judges were amazed when students from IIT Delhi presented their ideas. Seeing a laptop running on Android for just 15k, ‘sharks’ jumped on it and everyone started investing in it. These students’ startup PrimeBook received funding of Rs 75 lakh.

When the young guys who started this startup from Delhi appeared on the Shark Tank show, they were clearly confident about the product. The IIT students spoke so highly of the uniqueness of their product that all five judges declared investment in it. Eventually, the startup managed to raise funding of Rs 75 lakh for 3% equity from Piyush Bansal and Aman Gupta. PrimeBook Startups received joint offers from five judges and separate offers from Vinita, Aman, Piyush, Anupam and Namitha.

What’s so special about this product?
Made in India Android laptop Primebook can be run with 4G SIM. The makers call it the PrimeBook 4G. It runs on Android 11 based operating system and PrimeOS is fully tested. More than 2 lakh apps can be run on this laptop. Display with 11.6-inch HD screen and 4GB LP DDR3 + 64GB eMMC memory, which can be expanded up to 200 GB. The laptop has a 2 megapixel camera. The company even claims that its battery will last for 12 hours on a single charge.

Bansal handed over the cheque
PrimeBook co-founders Chitranshu Mahant and Aman Verma say it is the first laptop of its kind to have built-in 4G connectivity. “We didn’t get good offers from all the sharks, but we were lucky to get good deals from Piyush Bansal and Aman Gupta sir,” he said. Bansal sir even handed over cheques, while Aman sir talked about helping in software upgradation of laptops and improving hardware.

Each student will have a laptop
The founders of Primebook say that the goal of this startup is to deliver laptops to every student in the country. Currently only 1 in 10 students in the country have this facility. This laptop can reduce students’ education expenses by about 85 percent. The current valuation of the company is around Rs 25 crore and it is continuously focusing on increasing its production through fund raising.
