According to the new guidelines, now every celebrity and influencer promoting the product on the platform must disclose whether they have taken money for the promotion, along with the information that they have a financial interest behind their endorsement. Product included or not. According to media reports, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has issued new guidelines under the Consumer Protection Act 2019. Office Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said that the purpose of bringing these guidelines is to ensure that the right information reaches the consumers.

According to the new guidelines, now every celebrity, social media influencer and virtual influencer will have to say whether or not they have received money for product endorsements. Influencers should provide this information in the video itself and also state whether they use the product.

Live streaming is also available

The government’s new guidelines also apply to live streaming. If celebrities or influencers are promoting the product through a live stream on any social media platform, they should also give accurate information about the product.

Failure to follow the rules will result in a fine of Tk 50 lakh

The ministry has also made it clear that anyone who violates the guidelines will be fined Rs 10 lakh. At the same time, for repeated violations, the penalty can increase to Rs 50 lakh and the promotion of any product can also be banned for 6 years.
