Google is bringing UPI Soundbox
Testing is being done in some places including Delhi
The name of SoundPod by Google Pay
New Delhi. Google has been working on a UPI Soundbox for Google Pay in India for a while now. It will alert merchants about digital payments. According to reports, these SoundPods are manufactured by Amazon-backed ToneTag. Google is marketing it as SoundPod with Google Pay. These soundboxes have been distributed in a few places including Delhi as a test.
A Google spokesperson said that we are experimenting with various solutions to make digital payments more convenient and comfortable for users and merchants.
The SoundPod will also have a QR code
The SoundPod will also have a merchant QR code linked to the Google Pay for Business account. According to a report by TechCrunch, the device will have a built-in speaker that will provide payment information in different languages. Not only this, there will also be a small LCD panel, which will show the payment amount, battery and network status.
However, this soundbox will not support NFC. Because tap-and-pay mode is not used for transactions in India. Similarly, NFC hardware is not integrated even in low-end smartphones. Users will be able to make payments from any UPI based app through the QR code present on Soundbox.
Google has been competing in the Indian payments market for some time and SoundPod is an essential tool for mobile payments in India. Google has to compete with Paytm, PhonePe and BharatPe in the Indian market. These companies have already brought the soundbox to the market. It makes the digital payment process much easier. In such a situation now Google is also launching it.
